Overview
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide designed as an analogue of tuftsin, the tetrapeptide Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg, with a Pro-Gly-Pro extension added to its C-terminus.
Tuftsin is a fragment of the Fc region of immunoglobulin G, residues 289 to 292 of the heavy chain, and is broken down quickly by peptidases; the Pro-Gly-Pro tail was added to make the sequence more stable. Selank was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Semax, built on a different parent peptide, an ACTH fragment, carries the same Pro-Gly-Pro extension, and both have N-acetyl, C-amidated versions in the catalog: N-Acetyl Selank Amidate and N-Acetyl Semax Amidate.
